Celiac Safe South Africa

A gluten-free support resource for South Africa

Food Labelling Explained

Although I have covered food labels in a previous post, I need to clarify a few things.

As you can see, there are three different label categories regarding gluten. When I create a “Featured Product” post, the Celiac Safe green tick next to a product does not mean that it is a declared “gluten-free” product. It means it is safe for Celiacs. It means that there is no gluten present in that product and it is safe to consume. Some products are indeed labelled “gluten-free” and I draw attention to that. And of course, the black cross indicates gluten is present and that product is not suitable.
