Vanilla ice cream. This was a turning point for me. I remember being fairly new to the gluten-free lifestyle and going to buy vanilla ice cream. I was horrified to see that almost all ice creams have a “may contain gluten” statement. But how can this be? Surely there is no flour in ice cream??

This prompted my research and investigations into what “may contain gluten” actually means. And finally I understood allergen control policies and the regulation in place to avoid cross contamination.

I respect the choice of those that only eat declared “gluten-free” foods, but our family happily consumes “may contain” products without any negative reactions.
